Only a Quick update

I haven't been able to do as much art as I've been wanting to. My English writing class has kept me pretty busy and probably will keep me busy for the next few weeks. I get some art in every day, but definitely not as much as I would like.

Oh and that key-chain I showed last Friday? It's actually having bits fall off of it. The small details (hair and horns) chip off. I only varnished with one coat, so I will see if putting another coat on will fix that.

Messing with Paintbrushes

I'm still learning how to use a lot of features in Photoshop. The variety of brushes alone would cause me to spend weeks coloring one thing a hundred different ways. So here's one way I colored this guy that I liked. I'm definitely going to still mess with it a lot.

Oh and here's some step by step pics of a charm I made:

Above, this is it plain and unbaked. I use Super Sculpey Firm. It's great for doing detail work.

Here it is after being baked and painted with a base coat of white. All I have for paint is acrylic, so it is as this point that it loses its nice clay look and starts looking like plastic.

And here it finally is painted and varnished. Like most of my art at this point, everything I did with this is still an experiment. I now know that:
1. I should get smaller brushes for painting stuff in this scale.
2. The paint will take forever to dry on the figure, but will dry too fast on my paint-paper.
3. Speaking of paint, I need to find something else that doesn't make my stuff look like a cheap plastic junk.
4. Varnish will pool in annoying places and if I touch it at all after I brush it on it will peel off.

In the next few days I will see how well this guy holds up to being a key-chain, banging around on my bag. I'm gonna be so kewl at school with this guy. Maybe the next one I make will be better, with more wire reinforcement. And glitter. Glitter all over it.

Inking the Dragons

Some more updates of this thing. I still don't really know what colors I am really going to do with these guys.

WIP Dragons

Just the really rough draft of something I've been working on for the past two hours.

No More Sharing Allowed

So I'm still going to be working on those cards, but I shouldn't post any more work-in-progress pics. Yeah, now the only way to see them would be to buy the card set on Halloween!

So in the meantime I will just be posting some ink and color work of my school doodles now and then. And some other warm up stuff.

Old Ceramics

Just posting some pics of stuff that I made last year. Ceramics is fun and really helps with thinking in 3D (obviously) while drawing things out. I just wish I had more opportunities to do it!

I was actually real happy with how the colors came out on both of these guys. Glazing is such a gamble since you can't actually see it in the color it is going it be.

More Cards in Progress

Some more progress on those card things I'm going.

Cards I have:
girl doing cross stitch
one-sleeve shrugs
glingers
chicken sweaters

So this is the shrugs card so far. Alternative named "Hipsters in Heaven". This is both the rough draft and the final-ish line work.

Bonus! Animated coloring progress!

Now to draw some little chickens wearing sweaters....

Saturday Morning Cartoons

Special Not Cartoon Edition!

Instead  I'll provide a link to the musical Starship.
It's got everything I like: Giant bug aliens, great characters, funny actors, puppets, pop culture references, goofy music, and enough cheesiness to make it all fun. This is the kind of stuff my ten year old self would kill to see. It's so much fun!

But be warned, it is 3 hours long.

I can't possibly post all of the videos of it here, so I will only provide part one, and a link to the YouTube playlist.

Dumb Project Drafts

I've been doodling a few things for a project over in the Regretsy forums.  I picked out something themed around glingers! Fingers without the gloves.

Stupid, I know. That's the point.

So I've been working on how to do it a little and here is an in progress pic of what I have so far.

There are some parts the I like better about the draft one at the beginning of this post, but for now I will try to make this one work as much as I can. I just need to fill the background up with weird stuff that's all.

Not Much to Update With

I've been experimenting a little with drawing without leaving any lines. I don't know the word for it, if there even is a word. I kinda like it.

The Last of the School Doodles

I was sick for the past few days, so i thought that it would have been okay if I put off the blogging for a little while. I'm better now and so I'm back to finish this series of posts.

These doodles are from my Art of Americas class. I actually really liked it because of all the weird stuff that the people had. Obviously not everything here is based off of something I saw but I really did enjoy learning about the stuff that had. A lot of monsters and themes around death and all that spooky junk. Or at least those are the parts that stood out to me. There was a goddess that looked like her limbs were held on with snakes!

Also I'm sorry for the whole binder paper thing. I would have at least liked to have inked or colored some of the drawings but binder paper is not the best paper for pens sometimes.

More Class Doodles

This batch of doodles is from another one of my classes. Biology. I've noticed that the more comfortable I am with the class's subject matter, the more willing I am to draw in it. This means that I not only get good grades in my math and science classes, but I also draw a lot in them. English and history classes, not so much.

Friday will be the end of this class scribble submissions.
